Forklift Training

29 CFR 1910.178 Powered Industrial Truck Operator Training

OSHA estimates that tens of thousands of employees are injured or killed annually due to forklift accidents.

Because of serious concerns surrounding forklift accidents, injuries and deaths, OSHA propagated the Final Rule for Powered Industrial Truck Operator Training in March of 1999. This standard requires operator training and licensing, pre-operational inspections of forklifts and periodic evaluations of operator performance. This Final Rule also addresses specific training requirements for basic driving, stability, load handling, seat belts, overhead protective structures and maintenance of industrial trucks.
